Mission
My name is Jen, founder and designer of The Tapestry Spool. The Tapestry Spool is inspired by vintage fabrics, textiles, and patterns. Our mission is to make every-day wearable pieces of art by upcycling and breathing new life into forgotten materials and clothing. You may notice flaws or imperfections, adding character and telling its story. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, created to stand out and become one of your favorites.
How it started...
For as long as I can remember, I have loved to sew and create. When I was still in elementary school, my grandmother helped me make my first skirt. It was a midi with an elastic waist, made from a black cotton print with small flowers (I would totally wear that today). I continued to make my own clothing for many years, gravitating towards unique patterns and styles that no one else was wearing. I’m sure it was inherited, as my mom was an avid quilter, and my older sister is an amazing sewer/crafter as well – all with a love for anything old/antique/vintage. When I started my family, I continued to sew, flannel pjs and pillowcases were a favorite and pretty dresses for Kayla. As my children grew older, I found myself doing less sewing and more interior projects. Honestly, I love doing both and will be integrating interior styling into the business soon. Even during that sewing break, I continued to collect and hold on to interesting pieces that I always told myself, “Save it, you’ll do something cool with it someday”. That someday is finally here…The Tapestry Spool was officially born on May 2, 2023!
A Dynamic Duo
My daughter, Kayla, is my partner in this new adventure! It was Kayla who encouraged me to take this leap of faith and has been by my side every step of the way. Without her knowledge, creativity and tenacity to get things done, this dream would never have been possible.
